Sad to See the Summer Go? Time for a Fall Reset:)

Are we really at the last week of August?  I know.  It can be sad to say “good-bye” to summer.  Easy going time with friends and family, breathing in the sunshine and outdoors. The best of times and yet…

Every season is full of good things!  Just about the time you’ve had your fill of campouts, fishing trips, and beach escapades and don’t know if you can stomach one more s’more, the seasons change.  It feels good to pull out the jeans and sweaters again. 😊

When one season is about to slip into another, it’s a built-in, almost automatic, space for reflection.  A time to pull everything out of the overflowing “garage” and decide what will go back in.

A great opportunity to pause and bring your life before the Lord and ask, “Lord, show me, what you would have my life look like?  Show me what belongs and what doesn’t.”

Bring your journal or notebook.  Go off by yourself to a little corner of the backyard, a park or coffee shop. Even sitting in your car  in one of your favorite places or for busy moms, running kids to soccer practice, turn off the engine in your mobile sanctuary parking way back in the parking log.  .

Come to the Lord..  Begin your time with open hands & silence, prayer, journaling or reading a passage of scripture.   He’s waiting for you.  He tells us “Draw close to me and I will draw close to you.”  “Call upon me and I will answer you and show marvelous things.”

Bring him your life …the relationships, commitments and opportunities.. Look over your calendar, maybe even placing your hand on it in dedication.

Write out questions you have about your life right now.

Ask him what His will is for you for the next 3 months. Then see what impressions come.  Sift them. Some will come and you’ll know “Yep, that’s right.”  Others will come but not as clean. There will be a little hitch like, “Mmm.. Not sure of that.”  Spend more time sifting if that’s truly a “Yes” or “No”.

After you get your list, look at it again. Does it feel right?  If there is anything that still isn’t 100% clear,  circle it and write it somewhere to remind you keep praying.  Are there changes that need to be made?  Underline those and put them on your “to-do” list to take action within the next few days. I find if I don’t take action quickly after God reveals something, doubt or circumstances can change my mind or steal it from me.

Leave your time with a heart full of love, thanksgiving and peace that you have clarity about your life.  Revel in a God who loves you more than you will ever comprehend and watch the fruit come.
