Memorial Day Lectio Divina
(especially good to listen)
Hi Friends,
So good to be with you this Memorial Day Weekend! So many throughout history, have given their lives so that we could live in safety and freedom, the greatest of these, our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.
With it being a holiday weekend, I thought it would be good to bring a short reflection today. I invite each of you to join me in this Memorial Day Lectio Divina practice.
-----
Taking a few minutes alone. Maybe you’ll want to light a candle.
Sitting in a comfortable chair or kneeling.
I invite you to close your eyes. Opening your hands on your lap,
Take a few deep breaths, thinking of our loving Abba Father.
Keeping your eyes closed I will read this short passage three times with silence between each reading. I will give you instructions as we go.
Let's begin …
Take a minute of silence, bringing yourself before God, breathe deeply
Then, reading slowly or listening …
“This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13
Closing your eyes, pause for a minute or two of silence in God’s presence
2nd reading. This time reading slowly or listening, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one word or phrase He wants you to hear today.
“This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13
With your eyes closed, pause for a minute or two of silence in God’s presence. Then, write or speak the word or phrase out loud
3rd reading. Reading slowly or listening, ask the Lord what His invitation is for you today in this verse.
“This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13
Keeping your eyes closed for a minute or two of silence in God’s presence, say aloud the invitation you feel God is speaking to you.
Then, offering up a prayer of thanksgiving, slowly, as you’re ready, you can open your eyes again.
Amen :)
